The band members James Murphy, Nancy Whang, Tyler Pope, Pat Mahoney, Gavin Russom and David Scott Stone are all set to take it away for one last time. The band comes up with an elaborate musical backing. James Murphy is known for providing vocals and playing bass, drums, drum machine, claps, percussion, organ, vocoder guitar, synths, effects, piano, keyboards, clavinet, snaps, Wurlitzer piano, and omnichord for the albums. In live performances he is accompanied by the other band member for the musical support. Nancy Whang is one of the other vocalists in the band who also takes care of synths and keyboards. Pat Mahoney is on the drums, drum machine, percussion, claps and synths along with Tyler Pope.  David Scott Stone is the lead guitarist accompanied by Al Doyle, who also offers percussion, synth and bass. Gavin Russom is also there for the synths and vocals while Matt Thornley handles percussion and snaps.

The debut single of the band "Losing the Edge" gave them immediate success and the band instantly became a hit in the underground music scene. It was eight minutes of self-effacing spoof, dominated with electronic beats. James Murphy, after that was declared as one of the coolest men on earth. Their next popular singles were "Give it up" and "Yeah". The band made their debut commercially with the release of self-titled album in 2005.The single "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House" from the album was a hit reaching to the UK top 40 charts. It was also the Editor Pick for the Year 2005 by Amazon and received two Grammy Nominations.

In 2007, their sophomore album "Sound of Silver" was released. It was a DFA release, featuring singles like North American Scum, All My Friends and Someone Great. This album was commercially and critically a huge success. The album received critical appreciation by all the major musical critics and was also charted in the Billboard 200 as well as the UK charts. The Guardian rated  the album as a five star and Pitchfork thought It was 9.2 out of 10.The album was  widely appreciated by the musical critics in the Rolling Stone, Rhapsody, Time and Entertainment Weekly. 

Their next and final album was released in 2010 under the title "This Is Happening". The album once again has been a huge success in the UK and the US as well. The album was ranked among the top rated charts in both the countries. The album was a tribute to their past member, Jerry Fuchs who use to be on the drums for LCD Soundsystem. The album was written by James Murphy including singles like Drunk Girls, One Touch, I Can Change, Somebody's Calling Me, Home, All I Want, Oh You, Pow Pow, You Wanted a Hit, Dance Yourself, Clean and Throw. The album repeated the same success story by being a highly acclaimed album. The album was reviewed by thirty eight professional critics and was aggregated to score 80 percent on it. It was also among the ten Best Albums of the Year by Rolling stone. It  was at the top of the Billboard charts in its opening week and later on removed by Lady Gaga with her album The Fame.
