Beginnings

The Black Crowes were originally an incarnation of music group Mr. Crowe’s Garden that took its name from the children’s book called Johnny Crow's Garden, starting in Atlanta in 1984. Being majorly influenced by classic southern rock and psychedelic pop acts of the sixties, as well as contemporary one such as R.E.M., the band slowly took the shape of a revivalist group dedicated to the blues rock of the seventies era. Though the group experienced inconsistency on part of its lineup, its main motivational forces were brothers Rich and Chris Robinson. By 1989, the group that had drawn heavy inspiration from Humble Pie, Buddy Guy, Faces, Rolling Stones and Otis Redding, finally made their demo tape that brought them their contract with Def American.

Stardom

The Black Crowes issued their debut album in 1990, which with support from singles like Sister Luck, Twice As Hard, Jealous Again, She Talks to Angels, Seeing Things and Hard To Handle, went up the ranks of multi-platinum, selling more than three million copies. 

Over the years, the group has released eight studio albums, four live albums, two compilation albums along with twenty-six singles. Their studio albums start with Shake Your Money Maker which went five times platinum in the US and silver in the UK, while going on the fourth spot on US charts. Others include Croweology, Before the Frost...Until the Freeze, Warpaint, Lions, By Your Side, Three Snakes & One Charm, Amorica and The Southern Harmony and the Musical Companion, all of which took high positions on charts in the US, Canada, and the UK, especially the two latter albums which went gold and silver and two-times platinum in the US.
