John Fogerty – The Beginning of the Journey
Born in California, John Fogerty is Tom Fogerty’s younger brother, who was the rhythm guitarist of CCR. In the late 1950’s they joined hands with Doug Cliffard and Stu Cook to form a band titled "Tom Fogerty and Blue Velvets" based in California. They also performed songs with the band "Fantasy." After performing for a while, the band changed its name to "Creedence Clearwater Revival" in 1967. Following that, things improved greatly for the band. Their first self-titled album "Creedence Clearwater Revival" was released, and it produced the band’s first hit song Susie Q. It was followed by more hit songs like Proud Mary from the album Bayou Country.
In 1971, internal rifts started within the band. Being the songwriter, lead guitarist, and lead singer, John Fogerty argued that his opinion should weigh more than others due to his key role in the band. Tom left the group due to feeling dejected in early 1971. Other members also had their differences and after releasing "Mardi Gras", they disbanded. The album was a commercial success and received gold record status. But the sales volume was quite less compared to their previous albums.
The Star Begins to Shine
John Fogerty started his solo career in 1973. He released two rock & roll tunes and 7 singles in 1974. His self-titled second album "John Fogerty" released in 1975. Its single Rockin’ All over the world was a huge success. In 1976 he finished the album "Huddoo" and presented it to "Asylum Records", who refused to release it. John Fogerty asked them to destroy the album as he also was not satisfied with the album. According to him, he was not able to pen proper lyrics during that period of his life.
He emerged again in 1985 with his album "Centerfield" which went to the top of the charts. Its song The Old Man down the Road was a major success and a top ten song on the charts. His album "Eye of the Zombie" was released in 1986. After that, he disappeared again till 1997. During that period, his brother Tom Fogerty died of Cancer. In 1997, his album "Blue Moon Swamp" was released. This album proved to be his best work till date and won him a Grammy Award for the “Best Rock Album” in 1997. His album "Déjà vu" was released in 2004 followed by "Revival" in 2007. Soon afterwards, his album "The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again" was released in 2008 which was followed by "Coming down the Road" in 2009.
