John Butler Trio Tickets for Sale
Going back to the essential bare basics of our rock music avalanche, John Butler Trio has made music that is both commercially viable and artistically fulfilling for the players involved. The Australian roots music band essentially breaks down rock to its folk, blues and country origins, with a raw sound that is hard to engineer in today’s breakneck commercial environment. On top of that, John Butler Trio’s deft improvisations on stage make it one of the hottest jam bands around. Ringleader John Butler signaled intent when Michael Barker and Shannon Birchall separated ways amicably with the band in 2009 because he wanted to experience new dimensions of music with new talented players. And that is exactly what makes the John Butler Trio fascinating, unpredictable and always ready to dive in at the deep end with nifty seamless improvisations. The current lineup of Butler (guitars, vocals), Byron Luiters (bass), and Nicky Bomba (drums) is explosive in concert and John Butler Trio Tickets understandably are one of the hottest properties in town during their US tour.
Born as John Charles Wiltshire-Butler in Torrance, California, he migrated to Western Australia with his father, brother and sister when his parents divorced with him still eleven. In Pinjarra, his interest in making music really spiked when he started playing his grandfather’s old dobro by 16. Butler was a busker in his early days, playing on the streets of Fremantle, Western Australia to delight crowds with his self-made compositions. He recorded a handful of instrumentals, playing bluegrass, Indian, Celtic and folk music and arranged it as Searching for Heritage, his debut cassette offering. Selling a modest 3,500 copies, he was joined by bassist Gavin Shoesmith (who had earlier formed ‘Katamaran’ with Mark Hoffman and Grant Smith) and drummer Jason McGann for the first version of John Butler Trio. The group began cultivating a reputation among festival goers with their edgy jam band performances, and soon shorter and more radio-friendly songs were produced.
The second album Three saw them evolving a sound that won great critical and popular acclaim, making them one of Australia’s most heavily followed bands. Shoesmith left to form ‘The Groovesmiths’, and his replacement Rory Quirk soon left too, finally replaced by Andrew Fry. Intense touring saw them expand to international festivals. In 2002, Butler formed Jarrah Records with The Waifs (who had supported him in his early days) and manager Phil Stevens to release albums of the two acts. After a break following his daughter’s birth, Butler joined forces with Nicky Bomba and Shannon Birchall in the studio for the next album, with Bomba returning soon after to his reggae band and being replaced by Michael Barker. Butler started ‘The JB Seed’ program in 2005 to help aspiring Australian musicians from every background to create and sustain their music. Meanwhile, the artistic freedom provided by Birchall and Barker’s chemistry with Butler proved to be instrumental in John Butler Trio’s success over the next few years. The two finally gave way to Bomba and Byron Luiters in 2009 for the band’s latest offering, April Uprising.
‘Three’ was a certified success, achieving Platinum status. It reached sales of 100,000, and took home the ARIA Award (Australia’s biggest music award) for ‘Best Independent Release’, along with two other nominations. The sensational track "Betterman" finished the year #5 on Tripe J Radio’s annual hottest tracks list. Sunrise over Sea followed the uproariously successful live album Living 2001-2002 and debuted at #1. It received the ARIA Awards for ‘Best Independent Release’ and ‘Best Roots and Blues Album’, powered by the songs "Zebra" (APRA Award, #7 Triple J) and "What You Want".
John Butler Trio’s fourth album Grand National went Triple Platinum and won the same two ARIA Awards as its predecessor. "Better Than" (#4 Triple J) and "Funky Tonight" (#11 ARIA Charts) were its leading tracks. April Uprising has debuted at #1.
The group’s winding compositions, delightful chord patterns and act of switching genres within songs has upheld their "jam band" reputation. John Butler Trio have thrilled crowds with their innovative music at the biggest stages, including South by Southwest, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza. The next dates see them at Charlotte, Raleigh, and Atlanta.
Fans looking for a throwback to uncomplicated flowing music have opted for John Butler Trio Tickets wisely as the maestros are pros at their instruments and fantastic in their coordination. It is riveting to hear one melodic masterpiece unfold with unpredictable turns after another, a luxury afforded by the purchase of John Butler Trio Tickets.
