Haim is an all girl rock band based in Los Angeles, California. It is made up three sisters, the youngest being Alana Haim, followed by Danielle Haim and Este Haim. They specialize in indie rock although they have ventured towards pop music as well. The group is currently touring the US, so if you wish to catch them in a city near you, buy Haim tickets online.
They have every so often been compared with Fleetwood Mac, especially because of their performance style and the tone of their music. Critics have described their sound as having a modern vibe, with a touch of mid nineties R&B. Others describe it as being something that could have been composed by Stevie Nicks, En Vogue and John Waite himself. Even though the band is yet to produce a full length album, their live performances have helped to get their name out there. They performed at the "Glastonbury Festival" in 2013 which earned them a top standing at the survey conducted by the BBC which looks out for new artists. The band has recently been signed to "Roc Nation" management, a company run by rapper and producer Jay-Z.
The three young ladies were born and raised in San Fernando Valley. They grew up listening to 70?s rock music. A lot of their influences are also deep rooted in early Americana music. These kinds of records were quite commonplace in their household, since their parents themselves were huge lovers of music. Even when the girls were still in school, the parents put together a band called Rockinhaim so that they could work as cover artists and perform in festivals, charities and so forth. While the girls took over the singing, their father would play drums and their mother would play the guitar. After a while, Danielle and Este joined the all girl group, Valli Girls. This was a group that was inspired by the sound of Gwen Stefani, Blondie, Pat Benatar, Queen and The Pretenders. This band was based in Southern California and was signed to Columbia and Sony. Their music was even featured in the movie, "The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants". Moreover, their take on the song "Valli Nation" is prominently featured at the Nickelodeon Awards along with Good Charlotte, Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan.
Thus because they have grown up with such sound, critics have often compared them to the 70?s rock bands their parents made them listen to. Fleetwood Mac comes up the most when describing their sound. However, Haim continues to insist that their music take from more modern day influences, such as girl groups that dominated the charts in the 1990s. They are fans of Destiny?s Child and TLC in particular. From their contemporaries, they have mentioned Kendrick Lamar, Azealia Banks and Jessie Ware as some of their biggest influences. Haim has the talent to mix old school R&B with their own folksy, soft rock style, with musical styling that almost sounds like hip hop.
To their career, the band released an EP consisting of three songs entitled "Forever". This was available for download on their website for free. For a while they played shows with other artists as their support act. These included Kesha, Edward Sharpe and Henry Clay. The EP was quite a success with both the listeners and the critics. They began to play their original music in festivals and wherever else they would perform and they began to get noticed. They especially got the attention of "Polydor Records" a company based in the UK who signed them right away. This in turn lead to them joining Mumford and Sons on tour. This gave them an even bigger exposure to the UK market, and to this day they perhaps have more fans across the pond than they do in their own country. They have also toured with folk and rock singer, Florence and the Machine.
The band made their debut on the radio with "Don?t Save Me". This song was praised for having good vocal harmonies, with a hip hop sounding beat and a smooth transition from verse to chorus. Now that the band has made itself known to the market, they are ready to release a full length album. In the meantime, Haim tickets are on sale so if you are interested in listening to the next big thing in music, here is your chance.
