A band was formed in 1995 by Travis Stever and Claudio Sanchez with the name "Toxic Parents". The band didn’t do well and split up, making way for "Beautiful Loser" which was formed with Nate Kelley. This band was also short lived and the members split up after a short while and forming another band which was called Shabutie. As a part of Shabutie, the band released a demo tape with the title Plan to Take over the World and a studio album titled Delirium Tiger. It was from this album that the band started taking concepts of the songs from the comic book, "Amory Wars", written by Claudio Sanchez. The name of the band was changed to Coheed and Cambria after the two protagonists of the comic book.
Coheed and Cambria is presently made up of Claudio Sanchez as the lead vocalist and also in charge of programming, synthesizers, keyboards and guitars; Chris Pennie on drums; Travis Stever on the backing vocals, synthesizers and guitars and Michael Todd on backing vocals and bass guitars. The band signed with Equal Vision Records and released their first studio album in 2002 which was titled, The Second Stage Turbine Blade. It was the manager of the band, Blaze James that took the band to bigger stages and a bigger fan base.
The band toured extensively in 2003 with some other famous bands like Linkin Park, Slipknot and The Used and released the second studio album, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3. More tours followed including performances in Europe and the album was certified gold and spawned some considerably hit singles, "Blood Red Summer" and "A Favor House Atlantic". The success of the second album attracted some major labels like Columbia Records which the band signed a deal with and started working on their next album which was released in 2005 titled, Good Apollo; I’m Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow. The band charted at number 6 on the Billboard charts and extensive touring followed the release of the album.
