A Little Bit of History

The band was formed back 1993, when the original band members of the group auditioned in front of Lou Pearlman, who was looking to form a boy band at that time. After Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson auditioned in front of Pearlman, they came out to be exactly what Pearlman was looking for. Later on Pearlman went to Bob Curiano for writing some songs for the newly formed band, which was followed by a Backstreet Boys performance in front of A&R Representatives. Shortly afterwards, the group managed to land its first record deal with Jive Records.

Before releasing the debut album, Backstreet Boys released their debut single titled "We’ve Got It Goin’ On". Initially the single was only released on radio, but later it was released properly. Although it wasn’t much of a success in the U.S, it still helped the band in getting some attention, especially in Europe where the single broke into the Top 5 of the music charts. The band’s self-titled debut album surfaced in the markets on May 6, 1996. The album was a huge success all across Europe and went platinum in Germany. So with the release of their debut album, Backstreet Boys achieved international fame instantly.

Backstreet’s Back – The Album

Soon after the band started working on the second studio album titled Backstreet’s Back. The studio album brought success for the band in the U.S as well. As soon they released "Quit Playing Games with My Heart," the song was everywhere in U.S, and received platinum status. Since the band didn’t get a good response in the U.S and Canadian markets, they didn’t release their debut album in both countries. Later in 1997, they released their second album internationally. Backstreet Boys released their self-titled album which contained songs from both albums. It turned out to be a huge success, as the album peaked at the #4 spot on the U.S Albums Chart. While at the other end of the world, their second international release peaked at the #1 spot in various countries including Switzerland, Finland, Austria, and Germany.

From Stars to Superstars

After a sold out world tour, the group went into the studio once again to record their third studio album titled Millennium. Before releasing the album, the band released "I want it that way" as the first single, which was a huge international success. With high anticipations from the fans and critics alike, the album finally hit the stores on May 18, 1999.

Millennium knocked everyone off the music charts across the globe and took the number one spot. The album sold more than a million copies in its debut week and became the best-selling album of the year. All four singles from the album also peaked at the first spot. The album kept its place on the charts for amazing 93 weeks and earned 13x Platinum certification.

The following album was titled Black & Blue, which went eight times platinum in the US upon its release in 2000. The band went on a three year hiatus after that. Backstreet Boys got back together once again and released the platinum selling album Never Gone as their comeback album in 2005.

Never Gone was then followed by Unbreakable (2007), This Is Us (2009), In a World Like This (2013), and DNA 2019).
