Writer of Head of Passes, Tarell Alvin McCraney, along with Ensemble member Tina Landau conducted a few workshops before penning the script. Head of Passes has been developed by the Steppenwolf Theatre Company through the efforts of its New Plays Initiative that is supported by Harold & Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust, John S. & James L. Knight Foundation, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Zell Family Foundation. Steppenwolf ensemble first started performing in the seventies in the Highland Park’s basement in IL Church, as the brainchild of three ambitious high school friends Garry Sinise, Jeff Perry, and Terry Kinney.
