Rick Ross kept a low profile until he signed up with the Suave House Records. Soon he joined hands with another renowned label, Slip-n-Slide. Working with this label also gave him the chance to work with rap stars like Trick Daddy and Trina. He toured for the first time when "Hustlin'" smashed the music charts. "Every day I'm hustling" was the line which made this song addictive to the ears. It won a Gold certification. The popularity of this song started a row between labels as they all wanted to sign Ross as their next rap superstar. Eventually Ross signed a contract with Jay-Z’s Def Jam Records.
The peak of Rick Ross’s career was between the years 2006 and 2008. The debut album Port of Miami and sophomore record Trilla were released one after the other. Both earned top spots on the rap and R&B charts. Trilla turned out be the biggest hit rap record of the summer of 2008. It was a tribute to Michael Jackson and had a pop feel to it. The first single from this album ‘Speedin’ featured R. Kelly. This single along with "The Boss" reached high spots at the US Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles charts. Two more singles, "This Is the Life" and "Push It" were released later. “Push it” was used as the theme song of the motion picture Scarface.
As Trilla became a number one hit album, Ross became a phenomenal artist who was wanted more on the tour circuit. The press gave him good coverage and his label gave him chances to collaborate with popular acts. He worked with notable names like Lil Wayne, Flo-Rida and Young Jeezy.
Deeper Than Rap (2009) was released by Ross after the single “Valley of Death” stirred waves in the music circles. The album’s lead number "Super High" featured Ne-Yo while Stacey Dash was the lead performer in the music video. "Live Fast, Die Young" was the second single to be released and featured Kanye West. The album was a huge hit and reached the second spot on the Billboard 200. In 2010, Diddy collaborated with Ross on an EP which is yet to be released. However, the single from the EP, “Another One" was released in 2011. It revived the magic of Ross’s rap once again when he performed it live it at the 2011 BET Awards.
The artist’s fifth album, God Forgives, I Don't, was released in 2012. It had six wonderful tracks all of which earned top positions on the Billboard 100. His sixth album Mastermind was released in 2013. "No Games" is a prominent song of this record. Ross will be promoting the album on his latest tour.
