Gaining Some Traction
Taking his inspirations from Marc Anthony, Héctor Lavoe, Daddy Yankee and Vico C, Bad Bunny had always been interested in music. After studying audiovisual communication from the University of Puerto Rico, he began working as a bagger at a grocery store. During this time, he stated to record and put up music on SoundCloud.
Out of the many songs he put out, Diles grabbed the attention of DJ Luian who immediately signed him to his label, Hear this Music. This track was officially released in 2016 and became a monstrous hit as it went quadruple platinum in Latin America. It also featured appearances from popular Latino stars including, Ozuna, Farruko, Mambo Kingz, Arcángel, and Ñengo Flow.
Bad Bunny then continued to drop many successful singles throughout 2016 including, Soy Peor, Caile, Prayer and Tu No Vive Así. The first track from the list landed at the nineteenth spot on the Hot Latin Songs chart and was certified platinum by the PROMUSICAE. He also filmed the music video of this track which collected more than six hundred and fifty million views on YouTube.
Making His Way to the Top
While he achieved a lot of fame and popularity in 2016, Bad Bunny garnered even more success in 2017. He started the year by releasing two consecutive platinum singles Me Llueven and No Te Hagas. The former contained guest verses from Poeta Callejero and Mark B while the latter featured an appearance from Jory Boy.
He didn’t stop producing hits and dropped many more bangers including, Tu No Metes Cabra, Vuelev and Krippy Kush all of which were certified platinum by PROMUSICAE. In the same year, he dropped a collaborative single with J Balvin, Prince Royce, DJ Luian and Mambo Kingz entitled, Sensualidad which not only went triple platinum in Spain but also topped the charts in the country.
Bad Bunny was also seen being featured in multiple singles including, Mayores by Becky G. This track was certified twenty one times platinum in Latin America and also topped the charts in many countries including, Romania, Peru, Panama, Ecuador and Bolvia. In November of 2017, he became the host of Beats 1’s first Spanish language show, ‘Trap Kingz.’
Reaching for the Skies
Bad Bunny’s career continued to progress further in 2018 as he kept on churning out addictive singles. He released his first single of the year in January with Natti Natasha titled, Amantes de una Noche which recorded double platinum sales in Latin America. He then followed it up by coming out with hits like, Solita, Amorfoda and Dime. Bunny also featured on a Cardi B song titled, I Like It which helped him gain recognition in the United States where this track sold more than five million copies. It also topped the Billboard Hot 100 and got nominated for a Grammy under the category for, ‘Record of the Year.’ In addition, the track made the Billboard’s list of the, ‘100 Best Songs of 2018.’
