Foster The People
Formed in 2009 with members including, Mark Foster, Cubbie Fink and Mark Pontius, Foster the People came up with its debut, self-titled EP in 2011. “Torches” was the first full length record by the band, and it received critical acclaim, landing at number eight on the Billboard 200. Also, the group enjoyed the record’s sale of more than 321,000 copies. The album spawned a hit single, Pumped up Kicks, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and number eighteen on the UK Singles chart.
The mentioned success led Foster the People to perform at well-known festivals like Coachella. Later, the group went on a concert tour in Europe and the US to support the record and performed to sold-out crowd. In addition to that, Foster the People also garnered two Grammy nominations in the categories of “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for the track and and “Best Alternative Music Album” for the record. The song received a lot of airplay over the radios as well. The success of the number led to band’s many appearances on late-night talk shows such as Last Call with Carson Daly, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and The Tonight Show.
The band has recently come up with its second album, “Supermodel” in March. The record features catchy songs like Level Up, Fire Escape, Coming of Age and Nevermind. To describe the new release, one of the group members of Foster said an interview that the new album is "more organic and more human". It is being said that this new release is the follow-up of Foster the People’s debut album. The theme in the songs of the album is that of consumer ideology and popular culture. Foster the People supported the album with a documentary series and a 130 foot mural painted in LA.
The album earned positive reviews from the critics, who praised the sound and the theme of it. Also, the contrast between darker lyrics and lighter instruments has also been appreciated.
