The video cover of First Aid Kit’s 2008 song "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" by indie folk band Fleet Foxes on YouTube earned them quick popularity. Thereafter, the two performed the song alongside Fleet Foxes at a Netherlands concert. The sisters also own a spine-tingling assortment of folk songs which draw contrasts from Carter Family and Bon Iver to Joan Baez. The duet’s charming, folk-infused music enchants and lulls the audience. They seem to exhibit the beautiful style of late-60s’ and early-70s’ bands such as Crosby, Stills & Nash. The girls at first got inspiration from pop singers like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera but then later while they discovered the works of Leonard Cohen & Bob Dylan and learnt guitar, they headed to form their own band. In their earlier years, the sisters had posted an assortment of singles on MySpace, the social interacting website. This collection included "Cross Oceans", which was re-recorded for Drunken Tress later.
Initially in 2007, Johanna & Klara sent a demo of their song “Tangerine” to a radio station in Sweden, which the radio played that season. The same year, they were signed by Rabid Records, owned by fellow Swede, The Knife. In 2008, their first extended play, named Drunken Trees was released throughout Sweden. London’s Wichita Records rereleased this extended play after a year, reinforcing its song list with Fleet Foxes’ cover of "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song", along with videos of 3 singles performed in a live show in a forest in Sweden.
After their first album The Big Black & The Blue released in 2010, the band heavily toured United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and some countries in Europe. Their album The Big Black & The Blue exhibits a laidback rural whimsy along with contemplative acoustic ballads. The delivery of lyrics portrays a beautiful southern drawl too. After performing in Nashville, the American musician, Jack White approached the sisters, requesting them to make a track for one of his projects, the Third Man Records. Then in the 2011 Lua performance, First Aid Kit worked together with indie rock bank Bright Eyes.
In the winter of 2012, the band launched their 2nd album called The Lion’s Roar by producer Mike Mogis. The recording for The Lion's Roar took place at Oberst’s studio in Nebraska. The song numbers of this album portray an optimistically relaxed tone, with vocals that are full of life. The sound is not just more defined but it’s dreamy and magical. The album received tons of praise and & went up to the number one spot in Sweden the same week it was released, and number 35th in United Kingdom.
