Eric Burdon and the Animals that were an instant hit included singles “Bring It on Home to Me”, “The House of the Rising Sun”, “Sky Pilot”. “Boom Boom”, “It’s My Life”, “I’m Crying”, “See See Rider” and “Monterey”. They were named “animals” because of their intense and wild stage performances as well as unique get ups, which was unusual during that era. The last hit before their first break up was “Don’t Bring Me Down”. After it Eric Burdon went solo and released his album “Eric Is Here”. The album included hit song “Help Me, Girl”. The album was Eric’s last contract with Decca Records.
Eric Burdon and the Animals was reunited in 1968 with the line-up including Eric Burdon himself with Price, Chandler, Valentine and Steel to participate in a benefit concert at Newcastle. In 1975 they got together to remake The Animals and bring the music back to the stage. They arranged a tour and released the album “Before We Were So Rudely Interrupted”. This short reunion ended shortly afterwards and even today Burdon says that he still wonders what made them get together for that short time again. However, the band reunited once again with Eric Burdon and Alan Price to release “Ark” and went on a world tour. Their tours had stuff including songs since their first incarnation. They released their live album by the name “Last Live Show” and when Chas Chandler died, it brought the final dead end for the band, never to be reunited again.
The original line-up of The Animals was enshrined in “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” in 1994. The top bands and singers of today such as “Bon Jovi”, “The Doors”, “Bruce Springsteen”, “The Cult”, “The While Stripes”, “The Chocolate Watch Band” and “Janis Jopling” are influenced by Eric Burdon and the Animals. Eric Burdon was included in the list of “100 Greatest Singers of All Time” by Rolling Stone at #57. Burdon still performs with supporting band live on stage.
