Boz Scaggs Los Lobos
Boz Scaggs was born in Canton, Ohio and entered the music industry as a singer, songwriter and guitarist in 1963. His music, often a blend of soul, blues, rock and jazz, has been shaped into many albums and chart topping singles. His albums have been released by the likes of Atlantic Records, Columbia Records, Virgin Records and 429 Records. He is also known as the guitarist and singer of the Steve Miller Band and has also played with the likes of Toto. Among his most notable instruments are the Epiphone Casino, the Fender Stratocaster and the Gibson ES335, Les Paul and SG. Active in the music industry since the sixties, he is it’s a veteran who is known far and wide for songs such as Lido Shuffle and Lowdown. His album Silk Degrees has been ranked second on the Billboard Hot 100.
Scaggs learnt how to play the guitar at the age of twelve. While studying at St. Mark's School, he met Steve Miller and then became the vocalist for the latter's band, the Marksmen. The duo continued performing together while attendingthe University of Wisconsin–Madison. They would perform together in bands such as the Fabulous Knight Trains and the Ardells. After graduating, Scaggs took his music to London where he played R&B and sang in Mother Earth and the Wigs. He also travelled to Sweden where he performed as a solo artist. After returning to the US, he joined the Steve Miller Band and the rest, as they say, is history.
More recently, Boz Scaggs released an album dubbed Speak Low in 2008. He followed the album up with a series of concerts, dubbed as the Dukes of September Rhythm Revue. His latest album is 2013's Memphis. He followed it up with an international tour with dates in Japan, the US and Canada. The tour has now been extended to 2014 with more venues in the US, Canada and Australia.
Los Lobos, who will share the stage with Scaggs at the Boz Scaggs & Los Lobos concert, the other half of this concert, is a chicano rock band whose music spawns various blends of rock from Latin and roots to Tex–Mex and Americana. Founded in 1973, the band has recorded and released music through Mammoth Records, Warner Bros and 429 Records. It has also been associated with the likes of the Los Super Seven and the Latin Playboys. The members of this Grammy Award winning band from Los Angeles are David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, Louie Perez, Steve Berlin and Enrique Gonzalez. They have won several Grammy Awards from their music and have done successful tours in the US and beyond. The band has come a long way since the days when drummer Louie Perez and vocalist David Hidalgo met at Garfield High School, where the seeds of what would become Los Lobos were sown.
More recently, the band released a Disney covers album titled Los Lobos Goes Disney and then contributed songs to Keep Your Soul: A Tribute to Doug Sahm. Two of the band's members, Hidalgo and Rosas, were Experience Hendrix Tour's featured artists in 2010. Later during the same year, the band released the album Tin Can Trust. In 2013, they went on tour as a supporting act to Neil Young and Crazy Horse, in the latter's European tour.
