Ariana looks back and describes herself as “a very weird little girl” when she was a child. She “always wanted to have skeleton face paint on or be wearing a Freddy Krueger mask.” There even came a point where her mother became concerned with her young daughter’s deranged and disturbing ideas. Much to her mother’s relief, Grande started her music career instead.
She started out by performing in school plays, musicals as well as in karaoke lounges on cruise ships. She even joined various orchestras in Florida. She made her first appearance on television singing The Star-Spangled Banner for the Florida Panthers.
By thirteen she had decided to become serious about a career in music. Finally in 2008, she landed the supporting role of Charlotte in the Broadway musical 13. In 2009, Grande got the part of the quirky and fun redhead, Cat Valentine, on Nickelodeon’s Victorious. In 2010, she did another musical called Cuba Libre. That same year she finally began working on her debut album.
She spent three years recording her first album, Yours Truly, and finally released it in August 2013. It went to number 1 on the US Billboard 200 and Ariana became the first female artist, since Kesha, to have her first album debut at the top of the charts. That achievement also made her the fifteenth female artist to do that. With the release of Yours Truly, many critics claimed Grande to be the next Mariah Carey due to her wide vocal range.
After the success of her debut album, she collaborated with Nathan Sykes, from The Wanted, on a duet. She also joined Justin Bieber for three shows in Jacksonville, Tampa and Atlanta on his Believe Tour. She followed that up with her own headlining tour, The Listening Sessions. Even with her successes in music, Grande did not completely give up her acting. She played the role of Amanda Benson in the 2013 Nickelodeon film Swindle.
Finally, in the summer of 2014, she released My Everything. This album sold over 160,000 copies just in its first week and jumped atop the Billboard 200, making it her second consecutive number 1 album in the United States. The lead single, Problem, featured Iggy Azalea and made British chart history as the first song to land number 1 based on sales and streams. The song was also the highest debut ever for a collaboration of female soloists. Her second single, Break Free, peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Grande also featured in JessieJ’s Bang Bang, which reached the top ten in the United States, making it her third song in a week to hit the Hot 100’s top ten. The only other lead artist who has had three simultaneous top ten hits is Adele.
Now, Ariana Grande is on The Honeymoon Tour in support of her second album. In the summer of 2014, she announced that her much anticipated road trip will also travel outside the United States to Canada, making this her first world tour. Even though this is only her second headlining tour, Ariana’s pulling out all the stops for this one. With her major hits, her unforgettable outfits and incredible voice taking center stage once again, Ariana Grande tickets are in demand right now. The newest star of music is on her way to you.
