A promising start
Hailing from Hertfordshire, England, Ezra became interested in music at an early age. He grew up listening to celebrated folk musicians like Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan and their influences on his music are evident. Gifted with a voice described by many music journalists to be beyond his years, Ezra polished his vocal skills further while studying at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute.
“Budapest” becomes a hit
The young music prodigy was only nineteen years old when he released his debut single “Budapest” and immediately grabbed the attention of music critics and fans. After a drunken night of revelry on his solo European trip, Ezra missed the train to Budapest which inspired him to write the song. The warm folk-pop single launched him into stardom and proved to be a huge critical and commercial hit. It achieved multi-platinum status in several countries, reached top ten on the European charts and ranked among the top forty on “The Billboard Hot 100” chart.
Release of first two EP’s
The rising newcomer released his debut EP in 2013 titled Did You Hear the Rain? “Budapest” featured on the EP besides three other tracks and the album earned the singer his first entry on the Billboard album charts featuring on the “Top Heatseekers” list. Intense touring and a Glastonbury Festival appearance followed before Ezra brought out his next EP Cassy O’ in early 2014.
Wanted on Voyage makes waves
The year 2014 not only saw the re-release of the popular track “Budapest” but also the release of Ezra’s debut LP Wanted on Voyage under the label of Columbia Records. The album featured twelve-tracks including the aforementioned groundbreaking single and more hits like “Blame It on Me” and “Listen to the Man.” The album ranked among the top twenty on “The Billboard 200” and earned sixth place on “Top Rock Albums” chart. It also ranked among the leading ten on the “Top Digital Albums” chart.
In UK, Wanted on Voyage proved to be an even bigger hit debuting at number three on the charts and eventually climbing to the top spot. The success of the album led to four BRIT Award nods for the talented star as well as an opening act slot on the North American tour of the popular pop artist, Sam Smith. The album made waves on the music charts of several other European countries, including France, Germany, Ireland and Switzerland.
