Eddie From Ohio Dan Navarro
Eddie from Ohio doesn’t come from Ohio as many people mistake it to be. Rather it is a Virginia based band which is categorized as a folk group. Formed in 1991, the band has accomplished much local success and has got fans from all across the nation. EFO is something more than just a folk band and defies all such descriptions and labels. The band consists of four members; Eddie Hartness, Michael Clem
and Robbie Schaefer
, three graduates of James Madison University and Murphy Wells. The idea of forming EFO came one evening when during a Schaefer’s solo gig, Clem and Wells added their voices to Schaefer’s. This nascent idea took its final shape when the trio asked percussionist, Eddie Hartness to join them.
Starting their musical careers from the neighborhood bars where they used to play covers, EFO did their first national tour in 1996. For seven years, EFO had played at Bad Habits Grille in Arlington. Rising from town taverns, EFO reached the renowned listening rooms and played in concert shows throughout the country. With their humorous lyrics and tight harmonies, EFO creates its trademark sound by fusion of multitudes of musical influences. EFO has the honor of being a part of many prestigious festivals like Philadelphia Folk, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and Strawberry Music. Touring widely across the US from Boston to San Francisco, the band has given sold-out performances at venues like The Great American Music Hall, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts and The Somerville Theatre. EFO is a proud winner of sic Wammies by the “Washington Area Music Association” for being the “Best Contemporary Folk Group.”
