Parton’s career as a performer began at a very early age. She released a few successful singles during 1959 all the way to the mid-1960s. She showcased her amazingly unique soprano vocal skills in these singles that led her to her initial fame. By 1967, Parton became an established entertainer in the industry. The same year, she was seen as a featured performer on the acclaimed musician, Porter Wagoner’s television show. This was their first successful duet. They sang the cover of “The Last Thing on My Mind” of Tom Paxton. This song became a number one hit on the country music singles charts. Furthermore, their partnership brought about many critically acclaimed studio recorded albums.
In 1977, Dolly Parton began experimenting with other music genres such as commercial pop. That year, she released her single, “Here You Come Again” which became an instant hit on not just the country charts but also the pop charts. Through the mid-1980s, Parton released many country-pop mega hits. One of her most memorable songs from this time is the “9 to 5” song which was featured for a Hollywood movie with the same title. In 1983, she collaborated with Kenny Rogers on the song, “Islands in the Stream”, which also topped the country and pop singles charts in the United States. Parton recorded albums with the likes of Emmylou Harris as well as Linda Ronstadt. By the late 1990s, Dolly Parton reverted back to focusing her music career on the genres of bluegrass/country and produced many acclaimed songs and albums.
