Raised in Bronwood, Georgia, Swindell left his town to study at the Georgia Southern University. Packed with inspiration and music talent, he performed for his college crowd and hooked up with Luke Bryan, who was his college mate and Sigma Chi fraternity brother. They played shows at local venues around Georgia and after graduating, Cole moved to Nashville. Luke Bryan, who had by then bagged a deal with Capitol Nashville, hired Cole to handle merchandize at his shows and the two hit the road, touring extensively for three years. While on tour bus Swindell would write songs and Bryan’s hits such as I'm Hungover, In Love with the Girl, Love in a College Town, Shore Thing and Shake The Sand were penned by him.
Cole Swindell continued to write songs and his talent was recognized by Sony/ATV Music Publishing. He was offered a publishing deal and wrote the popular number Water Tower Town for American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery. Craig Campbell’s Outta My Head, Florida Georgia Line’s This Is How We Roll and Thomas Rhett’s Get Me Some of That are also written by the artist.
After finding success as a songwriter, opportunities opened for Swindell to pursue a career as performer. In 2013, he independently released the single “Chillin' It” and topped the US Hot Country chart. The song has a great vibe and it’s not just about the lyrics or musicianship. It’s the sweet groove that Cole has laid down, making the words pleasantly effective. The success of the single earned him a deal with Warner Nashville and in 2014 his debut album hit the shelves.
Swindell’s self-titled record peaked at number three spot on the Billboard 200 and was a well rounded effort. Treading along familiar country themes, the lyrics and melodies flow naturally. Besides his earlier released tracks, it also includes popular numbers like Get Up and Brought to You by Beer. This terrific effort has earned him a nomination at the ACM in the “New Artist of the Year” category.
