Alison Krauss injected life to bluegrass music by incorporating folk elements to it during the era of nineties. Her first solo album, “I’ve Got that Old Feeling” was released in 1990 and ranked on the Billboard Charts soon after its launch. Following this success, she got into a contract with Rounder Records and released a debut album with Union Station named “Too Late to Cry”. Encouraged by the response, the artist never looked back and only after a few years of her persistent efforts, she came up with Platinum selling compilation, “Now that I have Found You”. From the late eighties till the nineties, she matured from a child prodigy to an ambitious, versatile and a diverse musician and came up with fresh bluegrass music of the late eighties and the nineties.
Alison Krauss has released sixteen studio albums so far and is ranked among the “40 Greatest Women for Country Music”. In addition to this, her list of achievements includes 14 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards and 9 Country Music Awards among others.
The artist’s started off as an instrumentalist but later shifted her focus on vocals getting the inspiration from musicians like Paul Rodgers and Lou Gramm. Critics praise her for having an “angelic voice that flows like honey”. Her music is compared to that of Del McCoury, The Coz Family and Bill Monroe. Loved by fans and the critics alike, she is often taken as an influence by the upcoming bluegrass artists like Nickel Creek.
Although Alison Krauss is a talented artist who can write, sing and play good music, she rarely performs music that she has written herself. Her songs are mostly sad and are about lost love. Each of her albums has a separate theme and mood that follows the first song and continues till the last one.
When it comes to live performances, Krauss enjoys singing to a live audience more than recording music at a studio. A few of her personal favorite concert experiences include tours of Larry Sparks and Dolly Parton. After getting acknowledged for her music, she initially appeared on Austin City Limits in the early nineties and opened the show for the Union Station in the mid nineties. Be it a larger audience or small, the artist puts her heart in performing live. Well known singers like Joshua Bell praised her on performing with him for his Christmas album saying, “Krauss is someone I've adored for so many years now.”
