The story of the Orchestra begins at the Manhattan based Church of St. Luke in the Fields in the Greenwich Village. It started when the Church formed an ensemble initially named the St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble in 1974. The ensemble grew and developed slowly over the next five years until it was unveiled to the participants the Caramoor International Music Festival as the Orchestra of St. Luke's. The festival in 1979 provided the new ensemble a perfect venue to be introduces to the fan community and quickly build up a significant fan following.
