Known for its hit single Looking for an Echo, Kenny Vance and the Planotones came into existence back in 1992. Prior to actually becoming a band, Kenny Vance and the Planotones was originally portrayed as a fictional band in a movie named American Hot Wax which came out in 1978. Prior to forming the band, Kenny Vance originally was a member of a band name Jay and the Americans. The inspiration of formation Kenny Vance and the Planotones came to Vance from the fictional group that was portrayed in the movie back in 1978. The group is famously known for its renditions of doo wop classics that date back to 1950s and 1960s. The group has also released its original material which in turn is also massively influenced by the Doo Wop classics. By the group has released a total of four studio albums, all of which featured the group’s original material as well as its covers.
Formed back in 1955, Jay Siegel & the Tokens rose to mainstream popularity with the release of its charting hit The Lion Sleeps Tonight. The group is also known for its other hit singles including Portrait of My Love, I Hear Trumpets Blow and Tonight I Fell In Love. The group has also produced hit singles for numerous other big names as well. The group was also known for being the first group ever to record live instruments during its recording sessions. The current incarnation of Jay Siegel’s Tokens comprises of Bill Reid and Jay Traynor.
Lewis Lymon is yet another famous doo wop group which emerged following the stardom of Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. Even though Lewis Lymon and the Teenchords wasn’t as famous and popular as compared to Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, but still it was able to cause a stir in 1950s music industry with hits like I’m So Happy. After scoring a record deal with Fury Records, the group came up with its first studio release in 1956. Even though the album failed to chart, but it still managed to achieve good commercial success. After Teenchords’ break up, Lewis Lymon went on to be a part of another group called the Townsmen which he also left after releasing one record. Presently, Lymon continues to perform on his own.
Also joining the stage would be Shirley Alston Reeves, who is well known for being a lead member of The Shirelles. Shirley Alston Reeves was highly appraised for her strong and powerful voice, as she enjoyed a number of hit singles during her time with the group during 60s. Reeves decided to part from the band and pursue a solo career later in 1975 by the name of Lady Rose. As a solo musician, Reeves released her debut studio album called With a Little Help from My Friends in 1975 which also featured various other musicians. Joining Reeves for the event is also the original lead vocalist of the group called the Angels, Linda Jansen.
