The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night takes its inspiration from the book of the same title by Mark Haddon. The book came out in 2003 and created quite a stir. Its success and storyline paved the way for the novel to be converted into a play that has won the hearts of more than just a few people.  After making headlines in England, it is now on its way to New York. This is your chance to grab The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night tickets and watch this stunning production live at the Barrymore Theatre.

The compelling production has made use of extraordinary lighting, props and set design to tell this unforgettable and unique story of a boy detective with a strange mental disorder. ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night’ debuted at the West End in 2012 and has impressed fans and critics alike. The direction, production and portrayal of the complex character had made a lot of people realize that they have seen something unique.

The production has garnered a plethora of accolades, including seven Olivier Awards. It was for its premiere run that the play tied the record for winning the most awards at the 2013 Olivier Award ceremony. One of those awards was for the “Best New Play.”

The Daily Mail gave it five stars and said it was “magical and moving” while the Evening Standard called it an “ingenious adaptation.” The Daily Telegraph also praised the show’s West End production highly, saying, “Marianne Elliot’s beautiful, ingenious and deeply-felt production has now transferred triumphantly to the West End.” The New York Times went as far as to say it was “one of the most fully immersive works ever to wallop Broadway.”

The play forces the audience to see the world as another person and gives a unique insight into the workings of an autistic teenager’s mind, as he comes of age. What does it feel like to grapple with the usual mundane realities of life, peppered with idiosyncrasies unique to just you.

The story follows Christopher Boone, a fifteen year old boy who is a “mathematician with some behavioral difficulties.” Boone struggles with small talk, hates being touched and any deviation from his ritualized world is a huge disruption for him.  He tries to figure out who is behind the killing of his neighbor’s pooch which was found impaled by a garden fork and attempts to find out where his mother is.

On the other hand, the show masterfully captures the contrast, showing how his state is both a privilege and a burden. The mere fact that this emotion is delivered to the audience, speaks volumes about the caliber of the production. The set design team – including Finn Ross (video) and Bunny Christie (set and costumes) – present Christopher’s mind as a manner of mathematical variation.

Onstage, the audience is presented with Boone’s teacher reading out Christopher’s own writing in segments. As he sets out on his search, he faces difficulties in the shape of his neighbors and his own father. Fans will get to see the story presented as a play-within-a-play.

The role of Christopher Boone is taken up by Alex Sharp, a fresh Julliard graduate. The play owes a great part of its success to Sharp’s brilliance as Christopher Boone. He acts alongside Helen Carey - who was nominated for a Tony award - as Mrs. Alexander.

The reader of the play, Siobhan, is Boone’s special-education teacher, played by Francesca Faridany. She acts as the link between the audience and Boone. Other excellent actors onstage are Enid Graham and Ian Barford, playing the roles of Christopher’s parents.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night is produced by the National Theatre and directed by Marianne Elliot, who won a Tony Award for the “Best Direction of a Play category” for her work on the Broadway production of the War Horse. This fantastic theatrical production is now on the way to you. So book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night tickets and make your way to the Ethel Barrymore Theatre to watch a play that has the world raving about it.
