While the Whos' land is in danger and they must yell to make others listen to them, Horton is only supported by Gertrude, the one feathered bird who wants his attention and grows an impressive tail just to get noticed by Horton. Jojo's imaginative "thinks" save them all in the end. The egg cracks and an elephant-bird emerges. Gertrude and Horton promise to take care of the baby together. At the end of the show, everyone is united, and Horton makes them believe that "a person’s a person no matter how small".
