Rock Of Ages Tickets

Rock of Ages is a jukebox/rock musical that premiered in Los Angeles, California, at the Vanguard Hollywood in 2006. Laura Bell Bundy of Legally Blonde was cast as Sherrie in this production. The musical played off-Broadway from 2008 to 2009 and is currently being shown at the Brooks Atkinson Theater on Broadway. The stage-book for the musical was written by Chris D'Arienzo and is made around the most enduring rock songs of the 1980s; songs by the most celebrated glam metal bands that became global hits in their time. Rock of Ages is popular not only for the music and dance numbers but also for its "letting the hair down" quality—the actors frequently bring down the proverbial fourth wall during the play and direct their comments at the audience, creating an aura of intimacy and adding to the comically inclined, lighthearted tone of the play.

The story revolves around Drew, who works in the "Bourbon Room" to make a living while he dreams of being noticed in the world of showbiz for his talent as a rocker. He meets Sherrie, an aspiring actress who also works in the same Hollywood club/bar. The two nurture each other's ambition and passion for Hollywood, as they also become part of the battle to preserve Sunset Strip. German developers Hertz and Franz are threatening to demolish the legendary locale and replace it with something that promotes a "clean" lifestyle. Drama ensues but poetic justice prevails. Intermittently, rock classics punctuate the story. Songs such as "We Built This City," "Wanted Dead or Alive," "I Want to Know What Love Is," "Just Like Paradise," and "Harden My Heart" are some of the hits that make up the show.

Rock of Ages includes songs from bands such as Styx, Poison, Journey, Jon Bon Jovi, Asia, Pat Benetar, Twisted Sister, and Steve Perry, totaling more than twenty originals. Directed by Kristin Hanggi and choreographed by Kelly Devine, Rock of Ages has received five Tony nominations: Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical for Kristin Hanggi, Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for Constantine Maroulis, Best Costume Design for Gregory Gale, and Best Sound Design for Peter Hylenski. The musical has also received two nominations from the Outer Critics Circle Award. The film rights to the musical have been sold to New Line Cinema, so a film version may already be in the works. Rock of Ages is a spunky, well-made musical that excites rock fans of all ages.

Rock of Ages returns to the Drury Lane Theatre, with performances scheduled from August 24 to October 15, 2017. The new casting was also announced, featuring Russell Mernagh and Cherry Torres in lead roles.
