Ring Of Fire Tickets

Ring of Fire is a jukebox musical centered on the music of legendary singer-songwriter Johnny Cash. This unique musical explores themes of love, faith, redemption and family values. The musical opened at Broadway in 2006 but the theater proved to be too huge a setting for an intimate show like Ring of Fire. At Mercury Theater Chicago, the show has received much praise from critics and audiences alike.

Talented creative team

The musical boasts an exceptionally talented creative team. The show has been created by Richard Maltby Jr., who has won two Tony Awards and has numerous other director credits. Maltby earned a Tony Award for conceiving and directing the musical, Ain’t Misbehavin’, and another for the dance retrospective, Fosse. He is also the co-author of the international hit, Miss Saigon, and Andrew Webber’s Song and Dance.

Malcolm Ruhl, the musical director for the show has a lot of experience in the field. His credits include A Christmas Carol, Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Hank Williams: Lost Highway, among others.

Exceptional reviews

Ring of Fire has received some amazing reviews in the press. Chicago Critic has called it “a crowd pleaser,” while the Chicago Tribune has effusively praised the acting and singing of the lead roles. Chicago Sun-Times proclaims it is “a non-stop explosion of music” while Chicago Reader has praised Ruhl’s musical direction and Funderburg’s sound design. The musical revue has featured on numerous other local and national press sources as well.

Music and cast members

Ring Of Fire showcases more than thirty songs from Johnny Cash’s extensive songbook. There are several lovely country-western tunes that many of his dedicated fans will easily recognize. Songs from the show include “In the Sweet Bye and Bye,” “Daddy Sang Bass,” “I Walk the Line,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and the cast’s encore number “A Boy named Sue.”

Kent Lewis performs brilliantly in the lead role. The talented actor/singer has co-starred in the Las Vegas production of “Mamma Mia” and toured the country for “Billy Elliot.”

Michael Goodman plays Cash’s younger self and has previously performed in “Million Dollar Quartet.” Cory Goodrich splendidly portrays June Carter Cash playing songs like “Jackson”, the comedic “Flushed from the Bathroom of Your Heart” and “I’ve Been Everywhere.”

The show’s instrumental ensemble features multitalented musician Austin Cook, the talented fiddle, mandolin and guitar player Greg Hirte, and the energetic drummer and percussionist Billy Shaffer.

Devoted fans of Cash will find much to enjoy in this musical. Though the show features a limited narrative, the collection of music will be enough to keep audiences entertained throughout. Ring of Fire tickets will be a delightful treat for lovers of Cash’s country-western classic hits. The impressive musicianship of the cast and the talent of the creative team has made this two hour musical worth a watch.
