Few ballet companies in the US have gained as much name for ballet productions as the Los Angeles Ballet. It is America’s finest ballet company and its headquarters is in the grand city of Los Angeles. The ballet company was formed in 2006 by Colleen Neary and Thordal Christensen. Despite being one of the youngest ballet companies in the US, they have gone on to stage some of the most remarkable performances of ballets both classic and contemporary. The ballet company started out with twenty one of the finest ballet dancers, chosen from the best companies and ballet schools in the world. The company also regularly tours Los Angeles County, taking its ballet productions to bigger and bigger audiences. Each year, the company also stages auditions in Los Angeles, as well as in New York City with selected dancers offered twenty five week long contracts. In the short years it has existed, this ballet outfit has already staged twenty one productions, forty three works and staged thirteen World Premieres. Since its founding, the company has also focused strongly on its community outreach programs, which includes several arts and charity programs. One such is the famous Power of Performance program, which sees thousands of free Los Angeles Ballet tickets given to seniors, disadvantaged children, veterans and families across the Los Angeles County.
The ballet company also stages the A Chance to Dance Community Day, an event started in 2012, in which community members of all ages are encouraged to take part in free classes. These classes not only offer free ballet teaching, but also teach yoga, hip hop, Pilates and a number of other dance and fitness classes. Each year, two hundred people benefit from this event. Similarly, the ballet also organizes the Choreographic Workshop, which finds and trains the best choreographic talent found in California.
During the 2011 to 2012 season, the company was home to many superb dancers. The principal dancers of the company were Allyssa Bross, Christopher Revels, Allynne Noelle and Kenta Shimizu. Other dancers included Vincent Adams, Kimerly Bleich, Dina Bilofsky. Bianca Bulle, Julia Cinquemani, Katrina Gould, Molly Flippen, Ariel Derby and Kate Highstrete.
This amazing ballet outfit has also been the home of such amazing dancers as Melissa Barak and Craig Hall as well as character artists including David Renaud, Bjorn Hansen, Jonathan Sharp and Adam Luders.
