Hair, written by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, is an American Tribal rock musical that revolves around the hippie culture and sexual revolution of 1960s; Anti-Vietnam War Peace Movement being its background. Since its debut in 1967, the show has been able to grab vast attention because of both its creativity and profanity. Claude – the tribe leader – is in fix about whether to resist the draft and say no to war or squish his pacifistic principles and join Vietnam War as per his conservative parents’ wishes. Finally through the help of Shiela and Berger, friends sharing his stance, he makes a decision.

Although hailed and acclaimed, the musical has brought unto itself an assault of criticism owing to its openness and nudity. The use of psychedelic and hallucinogenic drugs (Hashish), adult language and sexual content have created much hype therefore the musical is not suitable for children. Often times the characters of the musical treat the American flag irreverently. The musical has been called to have the tendency to shake the very foundation of a peaceful society. However the main concept of the show revolves around the lives of the tribe who choose to live an isolated life as political activists; their purpose being to bring an end to war.
