Winner of five awards for best musical, Fun Home is a new musical that is leaving Broadway audiences wowed. After a sold-out run at the Public Theater, Fun Home is being brought to Broadway enthusiasts. The Pulitzer nominated theatrical production has been generating rave reviews and has already been nominated for twelve Tony Awards. The New York Times calls it “Heart-gripping” whereas the Chicago Tribune pronounces it as “an emotional powerhouse”. The musical stars Tony winner Michael Cerveris and features music by four time Tony Award nominee Jeanine Tesori. Fun Home tickets were on great demand on its first run, and its demand is only expected to grow now that it has been selected for Broadway.

Based on the acclaimed graphic memoir-novel by Alison Bechdel, Fun Home is a drama about life, love, family and surviving. Originally published in 2006 as a comic, the memoir is essentially a coming of age story about Alison Bechdel, with particular emphasis on her relationship with her father. The memoir relates Alison’s story at three different ages. Audiences get a glimpse of her unique family; her mother, siblings and her enigmatic father.
The stage production for Fun Home was developed over the course of five years. The off-Broadway premiere for the musical was held at The Public Theater in September 2013. Due to popular demand its original run was extended several times. It was picked for a Broadway production in 2015.
Fun Home features music by Tony Award nominee, Jeanine Tesori. The stage production is directed under the expertise of Sam Gold, best known for Seminar, with book and lyrics by Tony Award nominee, Lisa Kron. Other notable members of the creative team include Danny Mefford as choreographer and David Zinn as set and costume designer.
Fun Home also has an exceptional cast to its credit including Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris as one of the leads - Alison’s father, Bruce Bechdel. Three time Tony nominee Judy Kuhn performs as Alison’s mother, Helen while the talented actress Beth Malone stars as Alison.
The story provides a unique look into the past of a young lesbian girl trying to make sense of relationships and sexuality against the backdrop of her relationship with her father.
The musical has been generating a buzz among press sources after it got nominated for twelve Tony Awards including best musical, director, book, original score and best performance nods for each of its five principal characters. It has received a plethora of good reviews from top media sources including The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Daily News, The Hollywood Reporter, and The Huffington Post among others. New York has boldly declared it the ‘best musical of the season’. Daily News praises its subject matter while The Hollywood Reporter thinks it is a feat of “adventurous musical theater”. The Huffington Post announces that Fun Home has “the finest score in a decade”.

Fun Home has attracted immense critical acclaim getting nominated for and winning an impressive number of awards. A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Fun Home has been nominated for seven Outer Critics Circle Awards, eight Drama Desk Awards and nine Lucille Lortel Awards. It has won five Best Musical awards including the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award.
