Death Of A Salesman Tickets

Since the fabrication of the notion of the American Dream back in the 1950s, the American public has been duped into believing that an average Joe can make it big in the world of business simply by putting in the hours and diligently working his way up the corporate ladder. Where office based drudgery is perpetual slavery, no one buys in more to the steady progress towards the duplicitous American Dream than the travelling salesman. This breed of commercial field agents will attempt to pull out every move in the book to peddle everything from investment (read Ponzi/pyramid) schemes to fruit peelers. The American playwright Arthur Miller incisively captured the anguish and desperation of a hardy travelling salesman in his critically acclaimed play Death of a Salesman and forever changed the American mindset regarding the rigors of making a living in the so-called Promised Land. Avail some Death of a Salesman tickets now to witness the leading actors of this generation brings Miller's iconic characters to poignant life yet once again.

Set in the backdrop of the tumultuous aftermath of the engineered Second World War, the Death of a Salesman revolves around the mercurial relationship of Willy Loman with his two sons, Biff and Happy, and his wife Linda. Having returned from a business trip that never happened, Will is urged by his wife to request his boss for assignments closer to home due to the rising incidence of highway auto accidents. When Willy acts accordingly, his frustration ends up getting him fired from his job. However, Willy is more distraught at his son Biff's failure to deliver on his promises regarding entering into the corporate rat race, with Biff getting further dejected after striking out on his luck at his former workplace. When Biff and Happy meet their father at a restaurant later and Biff tries to explain what happened to the elder Loman, Willy spirals into a state of a state of regret and self-loathing which leads to Biff attempting to clarify to his father once and for all that he is not cut out to accomplish anything remarkable in his life and that Willy would just have to settle for that. However Will refuses to agree with his son and his strained his relations with his offspring in question eventually lead to heated exchanges between the two at the dinner table back home. Even though Biff calms his father down, who by now has resorted into talking with himself, Willy still holds on to his perception that Biff will be able to pull his weight in the business world and crashes his car intentionally whereby killing himself in order for Biff to be able to use the insurance money for starting a business.

After from the harrowing theme of the Death of a Salesman , the play uses a range of thematic elements to convey the sense of despondency and determination. Shadows and silhouettes are weaved in intermittently to create the varied nuances of the protagonist, which is commendably played by the Phillip Seymour Hoffman who rose to international acclaim following his role and subsequent ‘Best Actor’ Oscar Award for playing the title character in 2005's Capote. His further nominations for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ in 2007's Charlie Wilson's War and 2008's Doubt are additional testaments to his sustained dedication to his craft.

Death of a Salesman has already proven its theatrical mettle many times over since its premier in 1949 - that ran for a total of 742 performances - as well as subsequent revivals in 1984 and 1999. Winning the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Death of a Salesman has taken in a haul of ten Tony Awards that included one for ‘Best Play’ the first time around as well as ‘Best Revival of a Play’ on the eve of the new millennium, besides thumping down seven Drama Desk Awards that include ‘Outstanding Revival’ ones both times around.

The cast of the 2012 Broadway revival of the Death of a Salesman is further embellished by the likes of Golden Globe nominee Andrew Garfield, who is also going to don the webbed garb in this year's cinematic reincarnation of Spider-Man, playing the role of Biff and Tony Award nominee Linda Emond in the shoes of her namesake character. So grab your Death of a Salesman tickets now for witnessing pathos that lead up to the ultimate sacrifice given by a working-class citizen, acutely portraying the debilitating nature of the American ethos.
