Initiated in 1877, Wimbledon is the oldest tennis event. It is played in the end of June and the beginning of July, lasting for not more than two weeks. Recognized as one of the most prestigious competition, it is celebrated by tennis fans all over the globe. The highly anticipated matches are held at All England Club, located in London. This sporting competition comprises of five Major Events, four Junior Events and four Invitational Events. The Major Events include Ladies' Doubles, Ladies' Singles, Gentlemen's Doubles, Gentlemen's Singles, and Mixed Doubles. The specialty of this contest lies in the fact that it is still played on the grass, an attribute it has gained recognition for, amidst the altering surfaces of other major competitions. The tournament is one of the four Glam Slam championships, others including “French Open,” “US Open” and “Australian Open”.  All England Club has several courts where the matches are contested but the Wimbledon Centre Court is mainly used for the championships.  Marvelously constructed, the Wimbledon Centre Court was opened in 1922. To prevent the rain from delaying the matches, a moving roof was constructed. The roof is flexible and transparent so that sufficient air and light can be provided in the stadium. Different trophies are awarded to the different categories. The runner ups are awarded with carved silver plate, the Ladies’ Singles winner is honored with silver salver while the Gentlemen’s Single winner is honored with silver gilt cup. The other categories, Mixed Doubles, Ladies' Doubles and Gentlemen's Doubles are given silver cups. The champion and runner-up of the 2012 Men’s Singles were "Roger Federer" and "Andy Murray" respectively, while those of the 2012 Women’s Singles were "Serena Williams" and "Agnieska Radwanska". It is vital to point out that at the last tournament held at Wimbledon Centre Court, the record of winning seven times attributed to Pete Sampras was finally matched by Roger Federer.
