The UConn Huskies have been around for quite some time now, and their history goes back to the 1930s. They are a group of twenty varsity teams of men and women who take part in different sports such as basketball, track and field, soccer, football, golf, swimming, and tennis. The Huskies play all their games in the Big East Conference, except for ice hockey, in which the female team competes in Hockey East and the male team in Atlantic Hockey. Huskies are powerful black and white dogs with thick fur, and they live primarily in snowy, hilly areas of Connecticut, which is why the team players are nicknamed Huskies and their official mascot is Jonathan the Husky, which can be seen at different sports events. The team's official colors are white and blue, and the UConn Marching Band is known as "The Pride of Connecticut".

The men's and women's basketball teams play all their matches at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion and the XL Center in Hartford. In 2004, UConn made a unique record as it was the second school to win the women's basketball and men's NCAA basketball championship in the same season. An interesting fact is that only six women in American women's basketball history have achieved the Triple Crown, meaning that they have won an NCAA championship, a WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) Championship, a World Championship, and an Olympic Gold Medal; out of these six women, four were UConn alumnae. The world-renowned sports company Nike sponsors the UConn Huskies, and their contract amount is $46 million.
