An avid gold player needs nothing more than a nice golf tournament and RBC Canadian Open has brought just the thing. Royal Canadian Golf Association established a golf tournament in 1904 and this started being called as RBC Canadian Open. This tournament has been played every year ever since 1904 with occasional exceptions, mostly during the periods of the World Wars. Canadian Open enjoys special status in the golf tournament scene of the world as it is a non-US gold tournament for American players and is played on the national level. At one time, mostly during the war period, Canadian open was considered one of the biggest golf tournaments after the U.S. Open and The Open Championship. The first time it gained a lot of attention was in 1971, because of Lee Trevino who won a Triple Crown and the next one came in the year 2000 when the world famous Tiger Woods achieved the record of the Triple Crown again. RBC Canadian Open tickets have formed a legacy as one of the choicest gold tournaments, with an elite class of golf attendees.
Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer, Bobby Locke, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Tommy Armour and Walter Hagen are the golfers who have won the most Canadian Open tournaments, whereas Jack Nicklaus is a seven-time runner up of the tournament who never managed to win this prestigious tournament. During the years of early 2000s, RBC Canadian Open was held in September which was changed to July in 2007 to hold the tournament in summer season. This new schedule for the tournament coincided with three top golf tournaments, the PGA Championship, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and The open Championship. The schedule was revamped once more in 2009 and it proved to be a little more convenient timing for the tournament as it was no more sandwiched too much between the major golf tournaments.
RBC Canadian Open has seen a lot of home venue changes in all if its years. The most Canadian Open tournaments were held in Glen Abbey Golf Course, hosting twenty five events. And though Glen Abbey Golf Course was dedicated as the home arena of the Canadian Open by jack Nicklaus, the event moved to Royal Montreal Golf Club in 1904 and remained there for nine years. Mississaugua Golf & Country Club hosted six RBC Canadians Open tournaments while St. George’s Golf and Country Club and Toronto Golf Club hosted five tournaments each. Moreover, Scarboro Golf Club, Hamilton Golf & Country Club and Lambton Golf Club are the three venues which have hosted RBC Canadian Open tournaments four times each. All, except nine tournaments, have been held in the two most populace cities of Canada, Quebec and Ontario while some other cities like Alberta and British Columbia has also held some of the tournaments. The 2011 RBC Canadian Open was held in Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club, British Columbia and the venue selected for the 2012 season is a return to Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
Sean O’Hair is the RBC Canadian Open champion currently and the tournament has seen prize money of as much as $5,200,000. Where each goal and each missed input are equally thrilling, it’s hard to miss out on the action when the season of RBC Canadian Open sets on. Fans have enjoyed loads of brilliant game moments in the tournaments and they consider these tournaments to have become as much a brilliant golf tournament as any major one. And so is the reason why Canadian Open enjoys tremendous attention even after being sandwiched between the top 3 U.S. golf tournaments. Although the fame of Canadian Open has been affected to some extent because of the professional golf tour system becoming dominant in recent years, it has enjoyed a status as being a golf tournament of elite class. Every golf fans knows how much this tournament is fun and how much of a thrill it has to offer and so RBC Canadian Open tickets always manages to have high sales, with dedicated fans coming to attend it.
