David Toms holds the PGA Championship record for the highest aggregated score, at two hundred and sixty five, also the highest score amongst the four major golf tournaments. Bob May ties with Tiger Woods for the highest to par, at eighteen, with Tiger Woods accomplishing the feat twice; in 2000 and 2006. Rory Mcllroy, from Northern Ireland, is the current PGA Champion, having won the championship in 2012. This is the final major championship in the golf season, played several weeks after The Open Championship. It is also known by the nickname, Glory’s Last Shot, and the ninety fourth championship took place in 2012.

A pro golfer who wins the PGA Championship also receives a number of other privileges, as with the other majors. PGA Champions are automatically selected to play in the three other major tournaments, the Open Championship, US Open and Masters, for five years and are exempted from having to qualify to play in the PGA Championship itself. They also become members of the European Tour and the PGA Tour for the next five seasons and are invited to play in the prestigious The Players Championship for the next five years.

In 1894, two national golf championships were held in the US, with golf as a sport booming what with more than forty one gold courses in the US. Later that year, the US Golf Association was founded and in 1916, a similar organization, the Professional Golfers Association of American was founded in New York City. A new PGA agenda was then prepared by the new Professional Golfers Association of America and the first championship was then held at Eastchester, New York at the golf club, the Siwanoy Country Club.

The winner of this championship received a diamond studded gold medal and five hundred dollars, courtesy of Rodman Wanamaker. The first golfer to win the championship was Jim Barnes, going home with five hundred dollars, compared to nearly one and a half million dollars won by Rory Mcllroy in 2012. In 2010, Martin Kaymer from Germany won the tournament, followed by Keegan Bradley from the US winning it in 2011.

The youngest winner of the championship is Gene Sarazen with Roy Mcllroy scoring the greatest winning margin. For the last tournament people had booked their PGA Championship tickets in advance.
