The Orlando Magic are going through a bit of a transitional phase right now. They haven’t had the best time of late and will be hoping that the changes being instigated within the franchise bring rewards.

The Beginning

It was in September of 1985 that Jim L. Hewitt, a businessman from Orlando, convinced the then GM of the Philadelphia 76ers, Pat Williams about his project about bringing an NBA team to Orlando. The two went to work and their efforts paid off in 1987 when the NBA gave the city of Orlando its very own basketball team. The Magic were however officially incepted in the year 1989 and started off by missing the playoffs for the first four straight seasons.

Fortunes Improve

The Orlando Magic made it to the playoffs for the first time in their history in the 1993-1994 season but lost to the Indian Pacers in the first round. They then went one step better next year and clinched their first division title. Not only that, but they also won the conference championship that season. The Orlando Magic were now clicking and that saw them win another division crown in 1996.

After a short slump, the Magic bounced back to win three straight division championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010. They also clinched a conference title in 2009.
