The Orlando Magic was formed in the year 1989 by the Orlando based entrepreneur called Pat Williams and Jim Hewitt. A contest was announced in the local newspapers to choose the name of their basketball team. This is how their current name came into existence. Amway Center is the home ground of the team. Before switching to the current venue, they used to play at the Orlando Arena from the year 1989 till 2010.

Richard DeVos owns the team while Rob Hennigan is the incumbent General Manager. Jacque Vaughn has prepared the team well for this season. Ever since their inception, the team has won numerous titles including 5 Division and 2 Conference titles. However, they have yet to bag a championship. 

It is said that the Orlando Magic is the only sports team which is active from Orlando City in any sports. The team has been rated among the most successful expansion teams of the NBA. To date, three former Magic players including a coach have been inducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Chuck Daly, Patrick Ewing and Dominique Wilkins are the notable Hall of Famers that the team has produced so far. Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat are their major rivals.
