The National Black Rodeo Finals will be held at the wonderful CenturyLink Center, Bossier City. The ground breaking ceremony to start construction was conducted on 30th March, 1999. After one and a half years of hard work this wonderful venue opened its door for the first time on 2nd November, 2000. An estimated fifty six million dollars were spent on the project. CenturyLink, the telephone giant bought the naming rights. Since then it has played host to events of all types. WWE shows, sports events, concerts, rodeos, socio-cultural events have all been held at the center.
The National Black Rodeo Finals is in itself a unique event as it is primarily geared towards African-American riders. It is held and organized every year by the Real Cowboy Association. The organization is made to promote African-American cowboys cum riders who have had a long and illustrious history of their own when it comes to the sport of rodeos. That legacy started with the iconic Bill Pickett. He was the guy who came up with the technique of grabbing the bull by the horns and taking it down.
The National Black Rodeo Finals is dubbed as the Baddest Show on Dirt, and it is everything the name says it is and more. From the time it first burst onto the scene till this very day the Real Cowboy Association has ensured that the contribution of African-Americans over the course of history and what they are doing today remains in the limelight. In 2015, more than a 120 trucks brought in locally sourced dirt to transform the Century Link Arena. When the National Black Rodeo was being created more than 30 years ago, founder Frank Edwards included a Half Time Show, just like the Super Bowl, to entertain the spectators.
