The Nashville Sounds did not enjoy the best of seasons last time around. Their form faltered and as a result of that they will be even more keen to make amends this term. It is shaping up to be one of their most important campaigns in recent memory and you can book your Nashville Sounds tickets to be a part of it.
A Little Look at History
The city of Nashville had been associated with minor league baseball for as long as nineteenth century. When it comes to professional baseball, the first ever team that played in the city was the Nashville Americans. The side was formed way back in 1884. The Americans used to play in the Southern League but their stay lasted for one season only. Multiple minor league teams represented the city between 1886 and 1900.
The team that represented Nashville for the longest time was the Nashville Volts, that began to play as the Nashville Baseball Club in the year 1901. The Volts were members of the Southern Association till the dissolution of the league in the year 1961. During this time, the Volts clinched four Dixie Series championships, nine playoff championships and eight pennants. The Volts played their last campaign as members of the Southern League in 1963.
Efforts for Baseball Revival
The head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores between 1968 and 1978 was Larry Schmittou, who made a lot of efforts to revive professional baseball in the Music City. A lot of major league sides assured Schmittou that they will put minor league sides in Nashville only if he could guarantee a good enough ballpark in the city. Schmittou teamed up with Conway Twitty, the country music star and together they formed a consortium to construct a new ballpark in the city.
They reached an agreement with the Cincinnati Reds to be their minor league affiliates. Schmittou and the consortium were given the green light by the Southern League to form an expansion side. The name picked for the team was Nashville Sounds.
The Nashville Sounds Begin to Play
The Nashville Sounds went 64-77 in their inaugural campaign on 1978. The Sounds hit their stride for the first time in 1979 as they posted 83-61 record. They won the second half title for the first time that year and later clinched their maiden division championship. That was not all however. The Sounds won their first ever league championship that season as well to close out what was a remarkable year for them.
The Titles and Accolades
The Nashville Sounds have made it to the postseason fourteen times. They have in total won the league thrice and have also got their hands on two conference crowns. The Sounds also have ten division championships and six second half titles to their name. Their team of 1980 was called one of the "100 greatest minor league teams of all time." In PCL history, there have been only two nine-inning perfect games. Two of those have been pitched by the Sounds players.
So, if you want to see your favorite minor league team make a strong impact this year, then this is your chance to come out and support them. All you have to do is book your Nashville Sounds tickets 2018 and watch them in action live at ballparks around the country.
