Minnesota Lynx, established before the season of 1999 are a certified basketball team of Minneapolis, Minnesota. They play for the Women’s National Basketball Association’s Western Conference. The team has qualified for WNBA Playoffs four times in their 14 years in the state of Minnesota. Top notch players like Katie Smith, Seimone Augustus and Lindsay Whalen have all played for the franchise. Besides, the Lynx are reigning champs of the WNBA, winning WNBA Finals of 2011. We are now providing Minnesota Lynx tickets for all the Lynx fans out there!
The team got its official name in December 1998 and 1999 was their opening season, with over twelve thousand fans attending the 1st regular-season match at the Target Center, against the Detroit Shock. The Lynx won the game with a 68-51 score and went on to finish their 1st season with an overall 15-17, holding an identical record in the following year as well. However, 2001 turned out to be quite bad, as they finished with a record 12-20.
Brian Agler, the team’s 1st head coach took the office in 2002 after attaining a record 47-67 in 3-plus seasons, while Heidi VanDerveer led the team as the provisional head coach for the rest of the season. The 2002 season turned out to be the worst ever in the team’s history with a record 10-22. Then in 2003, Suzie McConnel Serio was hired as the head coach, leading the side to conclude with 18-16 and advancing for the first time to WNBA Playoffs. Both these accomplishments were matched again in 2004.
2005 was a transition season as the Lynx toppled when Katie smith left for Detroit. They also missed out on the playoffs, the 1st time in 3 years. However selecting the All-American guard from Louisiana State University, Seimone Augustus, paid off. The team came through with flying colors in the 2008 season, earning a 7-1 during just the 1st five weeks.
Many anticipated the Lynx to be the championship candidate in 2011 season, as they selected Maya Moore in the 2011 WNBA Draft. Very rightly so, the team lived up to the high expectations, owing to the superb play of Rebekkah Brunson, Lindsay Whalen, Maya Moore and Seimone Augustus. All four of them also got named in the 2011 Western Conference All-Star Team.
In the 2011 WNBA Playoffs, the team accomplished the topmost overall seed. In their 1st round, Minnesota Lynx beat the San Antonio Silver Stars, two games to one, in the best of 3 series. They defeated the Phoenix Mercury in 2 games to take away their 1st conference championship. Although the team fell behind at half-time in each of the games of the Finals, they rallied back to beat Atlanta Dreams in 3 games, obtaining their very 1st WNBA championship. The Finals’ MVP went to Seimone Augustus!
This year too, the Lynx started off the season with some excellent play, earning not just their franchise record but also the league record, with 10-0. The team’s all set to take on its rival in the upcoming games, so get your Minnesota Lynx tickets now!
