L.A. ultimately came out as winners in 2002 after not achieving any success in 1999 and 2001. Their notable wins were as regular season champions of the Western Conference from 1996-2002. In 1998 and 2002, they won the league's Supporters' Shield for best record. By that time, soccer fans started getting heavily drawn to their games.

Then in 2005, the MLS Cup was also won by the Galaxy which was the second time they won the Cup. The club also command distinction by making the MLS playoffs in each of the club's first ten seasons. They attained fifth position in the Western Conference as the 2006 season commenced. Due to this they were eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since the league's formation. Their Head Coach was also substituted during the same season. They qualified for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup final, but the Chicago Fire defeated them with a 3-1 score.
Galaxy reached the final of SuperLiga for the 2007 season however they were defeated by C.F. Pachuca in extra time. They were eliminated after a 1-0 loss to the Chicago Fire after making the end-of-season play-offs. Soon afterwards, they toured Asia as well, taking part in Pan-Pacific Championship in Honolulu, Hawaii. There they beat Sydney securing third place with a score of 2-1.
