The Minnesota Wild is the youngest team in the NHL today and is still intent on building a proper team. They have however still managed to enjoy some success and challenge for titles in the short time they have been part of the NHL. The Birth of a Franchise

Minnesota had been home to the North Stars between 1967 and 1993, before the franchise was relocated to Dallas. In the next few years many parties got together to purchase an existing side and move it to their city, but the plans never panned out.

However the NHL soon announced that they would be expanding the number of teams in the league, and in 1997 it was stated that Minnesota was one of the cities selected, with the eventual franchise being named the Wild.

Some Success

The Wild started playing in the 2000 season and surprised everyone by posting their first winning season record in only their third year. They also qualified for the playoffs for the first time that season as well, but have as yet failed to win more than a division championship that they clinched in 2008.
