The Wild Arrive

The Minnesota Wild were formed in the year 2000 but the wheels for their inception were set in motion a few years earlier. It was after the 1993 campaign that Minnesota North Stars departed. That meant that Minnesota was to remain without an NHL side for seven years.

Norm Coleman, the mayor then began a campaign to change that. A Minnesota consortium earned the right to buy the Winnipeg Jets and decided to bring the team to Minnesota. An agreement over the arena failed and the Jets instead moved to Phoenix.

The NHL soon decided to expand and Minnesota was given a new franchise. Bob Naegele Jr. was the main investor and he then went on to become the team’s majority owner too.
