LSU Tigers; Humble Beginnings
The LSU Tigers’ football program was founded in 1893 in which the team initially played independently. It was in 1894 that the football team claimed their first win against the Natchez, 26-0. In 1907, the collegiate team became the first American team to play football on foreign soil against University of Havana at the Bacardi Bowl. In 1935, the Tigers scored their first championship title i.e. the SEC Championship with a 9-2-0 overall score. Since then, they have won 8 Division titles and 14 Conference Championships.
LSU-Alabama Rivalry
Some of the team’s fiercest rivalries have been established with the Tulane Green Wave, Ole Miss Rebels, Arkansas Razorbacks, Texas A&M Aggies and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The rivalry series between the Tigers and the Crimson Tide began on 18th November, 1895 in a game that was won by the Tigers, 12-6. Since then, these collegiate rivals have competed 78 times as of 2014 with the Crimson Tide leading the rivalry, 49-25-2. Rivalry records include the Crimson Tide scoring the largest win in 1922 (47-3) and the longest winning streak record also established by the Alabama based team, i.e. 11 season victories.
