The Start
The Chicago Bears were formed in the year 1919 and turned professional the next year. Along with the Arizona Cardinals, they are the only other founding member of the NFL still active today. They were known as the Decatur Staleys back then and were members of the American Professional Football Association (APFA). They relocated to the Windy City in 1921 and changed the name to the current one in 1922. That was the same year when the APFA became the National Football League.
The Chicago Bears Championships
In 1919, as the Decatur Staleys, they were named the Central Illinois Champions and won the APFA Championship two years later. The Bears went a few seasons without winning anything of note in the NFL but bounced back by getting their hands on two successive NFL Championships in 1932 and 1933. Between 1932 and 1934, they also won three division crowns.
The 1940s brought more success their way. The Chicago Bears made that decade their own and won four NFL Championships between 1940 and 1946. As far as the Super Bowl goes, the football team from the Windy City has only won it once, in 1985.
The Chicago Bears have won the following championships over the years:
Central Illinois championship – 01.
NFL Championships – 08.
Super Bowl – 01.
Conference Championships – 04.
Division Championships – 19.
Chicago Bears Rivals
Bears vs. Packers rivalry is considered to be one of the best NFL rivalries of all time. Alongside the Packers, the Bears-Vikings and Bears-Lions rivalry is equally famous. These three teams are also divisional rivals of the Bears.
Green Bay Packers
The two teams, two of the oldest in the league, have been rivals since 1920. As of September 29, 2022, these two fierce rivals have faced each other during the regular season on 112 occasions during the Super Bowl era. The Packers are ahead 70-42. The Packers also lead the postseason head-to-head 1-0 as well.
Minnesota Vikings
This rivalry started in 1961 when the Vikings joined the league as an expansion team. In their first ever match up, the Vikings stunned the experienced Bears on their home field. An interesting feature of this rivalry is that whichever team is playing at its home field, wins. The rivalry is known for having had many offense-oriented contests, and also several upsets.
Detroit Lions
The two teams have been rivals since 1930. As of September 29, 2022, have played 111 regular season games during the Super Bowl era, with the Bears leading the head-to-head 57-53-1. An interesting feature of this rivalry is that it gave birth to the forward pass and the first ever indoor football game was played between these two teams.
