About Blaze Ya Dead Homie

Born Chris Rouleau and hailing from Romeo, Michigan, Blaze Ya Dead Homie was always interested in music. Rap was the closest to his heart and, digging into his the Mexican-American roots as inspiration, the artist starting rapping at the tender age of seventeen. This was while he was still in high school and after only a short while, Rouleau was performing in small local clubs, mainly in Detroit. He also adopted an alternate identity early on and performed under the stage name Psycho C as part of 2 Krazy Devils.
During this time, Rouleau met fellow rapper James Lowery during a performance at the Ritza Roseville. This led to 2 Krazy Devils opening for the band House of Krazees for an entire tour as well as the first and only album 2 Krazy Devils ever released. The debut was titled Flipped Insanity and was produced by The R.O.C, who was a member of House of Krazees. The album was not very successful, however, and 2 Krazy Devils disbanded not long after its release.
Over the next few years, Rouleau performed as part of several bands but nothing become permanent. This took its toll on him and just as he was ready to give up his music career, he was urged to sign with Psychopathic Records. The label is known for signing some of the best musicians in the hardcore rap genre, which encouraged Rouleau to join it. There, he met the infamous Insane Clown Posse, for whom Rouleau acted as a crew member for during the band’s shows. He also performed on the album Mostasteless by Twiztid and became a part of the hip hop supergroup Dark Lotus, in which he was known as Cell Block.
After gaining traction in his career once again, Rouleau turned his attention to going solo and released his debut, self-titled EP in 2000. With the release, Rouleau also established a new stage persona, which he named Blaze Ya Dead Homie. The EP contained songs that provided a fictional backstory to this character. According to the lyrics, Blaze Ya Dead Homie is a reincarnated gang member who died in the 1980s. The recording was more than mere kitsch, however, and Blaze Ya Dead Homie also borrowed from personal experiences to write his songs. He has gone on to say that, because of this, the self-titled EP is his most realistic release to date.
Fresh on the heels of his growing recognition, Blaze Ya Dead Homie released his first full-length LP in 2001. Titled 1 Less G n da Hood, the album featured performances by Shaggy 2 Dope, Anybody Kill and more. It continued the themes of Blaze Ya Dead Homie’s first release and was favorably reviewed by many outlets. The album was reissued in 2006 and reached number twenty-six on the Billboards Top Heatseekers chart.
The next album by Blaze Ya Dead Homie came in 2004 and was titled Colton Grundy: the Undying. By now, the rapper’s horror-influenced style had started to catch on, so he started to experiment. For the album, Rouleau took on yet another persona called Colton Grundy. The album reached number nine on the Billboards Top Heatseeks chart and number one hundred and sixty-seven on the Billboard 200 chart. It also received positively by critics, like the online publication Allrovi calling the album “a frightening and rump-shaking addition to the ever-growing Psychopathic Records canon.”
The following album by Blaze Ya Dead Homie, titled Clockwork Gray, was equally successful and reached number fourteen on the Billboards Top Independent Albums chart. His biggest success to date is his most recent album, Gang Rags. The album has sold very well and peaked at number fifty-two on the Bollboard 200.
