About The Whispers

The Whispers began their journey in 1964 in California. It was started off by twin brothers, Waller and Wallace Scott who later joined with friends Marcus Hutson, Nicholas Caldwell and Gordy Harmon. Originally, they made themselves popular amongst nightclubs and in the street corners of the Watts section of Los Angeles. Their performance in a series names “The Battle of the Bands” earned them a lot of appreciation and love from the fans. And it was not later than 1970 that they started hitting high on billboards with their formal releases.
They acquired their group name, The Whispers, by Lou Bedell of Dore Records where they recorded nine singles for the company between 1964 and 1967. In 1969, the group released their single A Time Will Come followed by their very first R&B hit Seems Like I Gotta Do Wrong. After this a number of other releases made it to the Billboard Hot 100 charts and R&B. Bagging the number one slot on “Hot Dance Club Play” with hits like Can you do out The Boogie, Out the box and And the beat goes on was just the beginning for the band. They had lots more big wins to follow and so are continuing till today.
They were one of the first artists to feature their records with the newly formed SOLAR Records (Sound Of Los Angeles Records) run by their manager Dick Griffey in the 80s. They gave in a series of back to back hits in the years to follow. Charting several gold albums and making it big on the R&B scores, The Whispers had not only gained fame but immense love from their fans. Their albums like Open Up Your Love, Headlights and singles All the way and Lost and Turned Out created that matchless charm on the American music scene.
The band was even inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003 and The Soul Music Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2008 they became winners of Pioneer Award and the Rhythm and Blues Foundation Award. These awards and accolades show the appeal of the band and their legendary presence even today creates the charm on stage that a perfect live show gives to its audience. The rhythms that they bring about in disco, funk, boogie and dance are entirely different from others as their music is a true evolvement of R&B over decades.
The music of this band speaks of their decades of experience in R&B and that is reason why they are loved so much even today. You will love each and every song even today as they present a live show with lights and sounds that will enthrall your mood forever. The band has even received awards from the Bay Area Blue Society, the San Francisco region of the Grammy Foundation and many cities throughout America. Duke Ellington goes on by saying “There are two kinds of music … good music and the other kind. The Whispers has always provided good music to their fans; their music is timeless and internationally acclaimed reaching all genders and age groups.”
