Freddie Jackson moved to the West Coast during the early years of his career and there he joined the Mystic Merlin, an R&B band as the lead singer but soon returned to New York. There he joined Hush Productions along with Paul Laurence. Jackson went into a contract with Capitol Records in 1985 and released “Rock Me Tonight,” his first debut album. The album’s title track which was written by Laurence topped all the R&B charts making Jackson an instant hit across the nation. This first album took Jackson to stardom and eventually won him a Grammy nomination for the ‘Best New Artist’. His career took a great turn here making him one of the top 20 best-selling black music artists of that period. “Rock Me Tonight” became double platinum album.
