About Ted Nugent

It was there in the Windy City that Ted Nugent founded another band and named it “The Amboy Dukes.”  He went back to Detroit after a short while to complete his high school. Once that was done, Nugent started to focus solely on his music career. He began to recruit members for The Amboy Dukes and the band started to play. It took three years for the group’s music to make its mark which landed them their first recording contract.
That was followed by The Amboy Dukes first album in 1967. It was a self-titled release that went on to do fairly well on the commercial front. In 1968 they released the song “Journey to the Center of the Mind” and that song turned out to be an instant hit in the United States. They spent the next few years coming out with multiple records while also touring extensively. At times they were headlining an impressive three hundred concerts per year.
Ted Nugent was leading the group and their concerts started to trigger a lot of discussion among music loving fraternity. Nugent then decided to separate himself from The Amboy Dukes to kick start his solo career in 1975. He was handed a recording contract by Epic Records and he released his self-titled debut album. It turned into a huge hit right from the very beginning. “Ted Nugent” had fans and critics raving over it. Allmusic gave it four stars out of five whereas Classic Rock gave it all five. The album earned double platinum status in the U.S.
The follow-up “Free-for-All” hit the music stores in 1976 and turned out to be an instant hit as well. It repeated the achievements of its predecessor to go two times platinum as well. “Cat Scratch Fever” was Nugent’s next album and it eclipsed the success enjoyed by the two albums that came before it. Cat Scratch Fever was a rage right from the word go and sold well over three million copies to go triple platinum in the United States.
The start of next year, 1978, witnessed the release of Ted Nugent’s first live album titled “Double Live Gonzo!” which went triple platinum as well. His next studio album was titled “Weekend Warriors” and it went platinum as well. “State of Shock” and “Scream Dream” both went gold to cement Nugent’s status among the most famous names of his era.
