At the age of three, Sonu Nigam started singing on stage. Sonu’s father, Agam Kumar Nigam was a singer himself, and Sonu started accompanying him on stage for performances. Agam Kumar, noting his son’s potential, chose to patronize his son and Sonu began a music journey that has been a success. As a teenager, Sonu struggled to make his name in the industry. Often overlooked and rejected, he started appearing on a music television show, Sa Re Ga Ma. With a discography as vast and varied as Sonu’s, it’s no wonder that he has won countless awards and nominations. 2004 saw him emerge as the winner of the National Film Award for “Best Male Playback Singer,” for his work on the Kal Ho Na Ho soundtrack. 2012 saw him win the Sandalwood Star Award for “Best Male Payback Singer.” 2013 saw him win the TOIFA in the category of “Male Vocalist of the Year.”


Apart from these, he has won three Indian Television Academy Awards, three Lions Gold Awards, three Annual Central European Bollywood Awards, two MTV Style Awards, two Bangalore Times Film Awards and three MTV Immies. He has also amassed various other awards and nominations with a record of eleven nominations at the Zee Cine Awards which gave him four wins for “Best Male Playback Singer.” He has also been nominated for ten International Indian Film Academy Awards, out of which he has won four, again in the “Best Male Playback” category. He has also been nominated for eight Screen Awards out of which he has won four. Seven nominations at the Filmfare Awards South have given him two award wins. In addition to all of the above wins, Sonu Nigam has also been nominated seventeen times for a Filmfare Award, and has subsequently won two for his work on Saathiya and Kal Ho Na Ho.
