About Red Hot Chili Peppers

Los Angeles, California based American Rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers was formed in 1983. It has gained most of its fame over the years for its unique style of blending traditional funk music with other genres like psychedelic and punk rock. The members include Josh Klinghoffer on guitars, Chad Smith on drums, Michael "Flea" Balzary on bass along with Anthony Kiedis on lead vocals. Most of the members have joined in later and at the time of formation the band comprised of Jack Irons on drums and Hillel Slovak on guitars, along with Cliff Martinez and Jack Sherman on drums and guitars.

The members knew each others during their school days at Fairfax High School, Los Angeles. The friends initially used the moniker Tony Flow & the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem and performed for the first time in front of thirty people at the Rhythm Lounge. Their performance received a warm response from the audience and the collaboration that was initially thought to be a onetime only performance was extended to the next week also. The members were themselves astonished to see the remarkable response to their performance, and for this unexpected success of the band, they named it Cheap Red Hot Chili Peppers tickets.

Soon afterwards, the band was officially named and signed to EMI Records. Two of the founder members, Irons and Slovak, who were already committed with What Is This?, another band from Los Angeles preferred to stick with their prior commitments and left the band even before their debut release. The remaining members decided to carry on with newer members and Red Hot Chili Peppers released its debut self titled album in 1984. Although, the release was not a block buster, but it did manage to establish the band’s identity in rock music scene of Los Angeles, and a fan following was started.
Red Hot Chili Peppers second album named Freaky Styley followed in 1985, where the members tried to overcome the mistakes they had made in their first release. Newer styles of singing were tried especially the fusion of funk and punk that later on set the basis of one of the signature styles for the band. The album did a better business than its predecessor and provided Red Hot Chili Peppers with the recognition among showbiz industry. It later manifested in the band’s appearance in Thrashin’ and Tough Guys, the movies released later that decade.
The band kept on climbing up the ladder of success with its subsequent releases, including The Uplift Mofo Party and Mother’s Milk, released in 1986 and 1989. After the release of The Uplift Mofo Party, one of the significant members of the band, Slovak, died of heroin overdose. It was an unfortunate incidence and set the whole mood gloomy for the band that was previously excited with their successful album and following tour. Jack Irons, who had returned to the band after a long time, also left again to join ‘Pearl Jam’.

Subsequent releases by the band included Blood Sugar Sex Magik, One Hot Minute, Californication, By The Way, Stadium Arcadium and I’m With You, all contributing the band to become one of the best among all the rock music bands in the country. There were members that left and joined the band during these years, but nothing came in Red Hot Chili Peppers’ way to superstardom. For their absolutely stunning talent and quality of their music, Red Hot Chili Peppers received many awards including 7 Grammy’s, a prestige that is not shared by many others.
