Los Angeles, California based American Rock band
Red Hot Chili Peppers was formed in 1983. It has gained most of its fame over the years for its unique style of blending traditional funk music with other genres like psychedelic and punk rock. The members include
Josh Klinghoffer on guitars,
Chad Smith on drums,
Michael "Flea" Balzary on bass along with
Anthony Kiedis on lead vocals. Most of the members have joined in later and at the time of formation the band comprised of
Jack Irons on drums and
Hillel Slovak on guitars, along with
Cliff Martinez and
Jack Sherman on drums and guitars.
The members knew each others during their school days at
Fairfax High School, Los Angeles. The friends initially used the moniker
Tony Flow & the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem and performed for the first time in front of thirty people at the
Rhythm Lounge. Their performance received a warm response from the audience and the collaboration that was initially thought to be a onetime only performance was extended to the next week also. The members were themselves astonished to see the remarkable response to their performance, and for this unexpected success of the band, they named it

EMI Records. Two of the founder members, Irons and Slovak, who were already committed with
What Is This?, another band from

Freaky Styley followed in 1985, where the members tried to overcome the mistakes they had made in their first release. Newer styles of singing were tried especially the fusion of funk and punk that later on set the basis of one of the signature styles for the band. The album did a better business than its predecessor and provided
Red Hot Chili Peppers with the recognition among showbiz industry. It later manifested in the band’s appearance in
Thrashin’ and
Tough Guys, the movies released later that decade.
The band kept on climbing up the ladder of success with its subsequent releases, including
The Uplift Mofo Party and
Mother’s Milk, released in 1986 and 1989. After the release of
The Uplift Mofo Party, one of the significant members of the band, Slovak, died of heroin overdose. It was an unfortunate incidence and set the whole mood gloomy for the band that was previously excited with their successful album and following tour.
Jack Irons, who had returned to the band after a long time, also left again to join ‘Pearl Jam’.
Subsequent releases by the band included
Blood Sugar Sex Magik, One Hot Minute, Californication, By The Way, Stadium Arcadium and
I’m With You, all contributing the band to become one of the best among all the rock music bands in the country.
